East Tennessee has two excellent colleges and one community college. Many students come to Johnson City and the surrounding communities to attend either East Tennessee State University or Milligan College. Both of these institutions provide numerous services and give a tremendous amount to our communities; here we have provided a little bit of information about these two excellent schools.

East Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) was founded in 1911 at its main campus in Johnson City, Tennessee. Included in the Tennessee Board of Regents system of colleges and universities, East Tennessee State University was listed in 2007’s Princeton Review as one of “America’s Best Value Colleges”, and is home for more than 11,000 students.

Undergraduates major in one of 112 majors that are housed in six colleges which include: Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology, Education, Medicine, Nursing, and Public & Allied Health. Known for its health science and medical programs, ETSU also has over 75 masters programs and 12 doctoral programs, most of which are in the health sciences. The Quillen College of Medicine is a renowned medical college with a reputation of producing highly qualified medical professionals and nurses. ETSU has a few smaller, separate campuses in Kingsport, Bristol, Elizabethton, and Greenville Tennessee.

Milligan College
Milligan College is a Christian liberal arts college that was founded in 1866. Located just outside of Elizabethton, the school’s 181 acre campus is located just minutes from downtown Johnson City. Milligan College is a smaller school, with just over 1,000 students that study 23 different majors and 3 masters programs.

Milligan College is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities and as such maintains a commitment to an education in a Christ centered atmosphere. Affiliated with the Churches of Christ, or Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Milligan College TN integrates their academic programs with biblical instruction and a service oriented approach. Milligan College awards three bachelors degrees including: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Also, Milligan’s masters programs award two different masters degrees - a Master of Education, and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.
